Established in 1992, the Regional Centre for Strategic Studies (RCSS) is an independent, non-profit and non-governmental organization which encourages research, dialogue, networking and deliberation on a broad range of conventional and non-conventional sources of conflict and conditions of peace. The RCSS thrives to promote the Vision, “Together for a secure and more safer South Asia”, through research collaborations with regional and international institutions and individuals across the globe.
RCSS mission encompasses "Bridging Traditional and Non-Traditional Security concerns in the Region to expand strategic horizons". In this regard, the research team currently engages in thematic research areas including foreign policy and strategy, democratic governance, non-traditional maritime security threats, cyber security, blue economy, human security, ecology, disaster risk, climate change, migration, institutional resilience, digital rights approach, prevention of violent extremism, and peacebuilding.
RCSS is a knowledge repository, with several hundred publications. Its extensive record of research publications on various contemporary aspects of political and socio-economic issues in South Asia has contributed largely to knowledge dissemination in the region.
RCSS draws expertise from a wide network of international scholars. RCSS Board of Management includes scholars from South Asia, a Research Committee also draws on international experts, and a wide network of alumni from its residential workshops and its annual awardees. The RCSS network is primarily drawn from a wide network of alumni from its residential workshops held and its annual awardees of the Kodikara Award, as well as the Mahbub Ul-Haq Award. RCSS hopes to convert research, networking and innovation for human security solutions in the region.
